Tell people you write about food for a living, and most reactions are pretty predictable: “What a great job,” they enthuse. “Do you get to eat for free? What’s your favorite restaurant?” Then people run through their list of favorite places to eat, naming longtime favorites for steaks or barbecue along with trendy newcomers for cocktails and shared plates.
