La Tourelle, the Midtown French restaurant operated by Glenn and Martha Hays for more than 30 years, and its Italian successor, Tuscany, are both gone from 2146 Monroe Ave. The Hayses instead are focusing on Café 1912, the bistro they operate nearby at 243 South Cooper. The house where La Tourelle had made its home has been taken over by Kelly English, a protégé of New Orleans chef John Besh. He plans to open Restaurant Iris this winter.
Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches is opening at 5181 Poplar Ave. This Midwest chain features home delivery, in addition to dining in.
