McEwen's on Monroe has a new owner. Mac and Cindy Edwards sold the restaurant they started in 1997 to Bert Smythe, who plans to keep things pretty much the same as it had been under the Edwards' ownership.
Memphis barbecue has gained some national visibility, thanks to the appearance of Pat and Gina Neely on the Food Network. The couple, owners of Neely's Bar-B-Que, have their own show on the network, Down Home with the Neelys, featuring home versions of the restaurant's barbecue spaghetti and plenty of, well, down-home fare.
