By the time I got to opening day of the downtown farmers market, I’d missed the eggs, bread, and early heirloom tomatoes. I did manage to nab the last two packs of Italian sausage from Newman Farm and a gorgeous bouquet of pink of red tulips from Whitton Farms.Other vendors
had buckets of tulips as well, a springtime treat as wonderful to me as arugula and asparagus. If you love tulips too, don’t wait too long as the season is short-lived. And if you don’t feel like driving downtown for a flower fix, Brandon Pugh from Delta Sol Farm is selling parrot tulips and herbs on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Urban Farms Market located on Tillman and Sam Cooper. The corner grocery store, which opened last month, begins an outdoor farmers market today, and Pugh will be on hand for the festivities. On April 30th, he’ll move to the Cooper-Young Community Farmers Market located next to First Congregational Church.
