Elegant Farmer fans, listen up: The popular farm-to-table restaurant in East Memphis will soon be open seven days a week.
Beginning January 20, the restaurant will serve Sunday dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering the restaurant’s lunch menu now served on weekdays plus specials.
The extended hours also will include Mondays for lunch and dinner, with an evening menu that mixes up
menu themes. Here’s how owner Mac Edwards explained the upcoming Monday menu plan: breakfast for dinner on the first Monday of the month; burgers on the second Monday of the month, including such variations as ground chicken and ground lamb; lunch for dinner on the third Monday of the month; and a continuation of the restaurant's “The Last Monday Supper” on the fourth. The wine and dinner pairings will include four wines and three courses for $30.
“On months with a fifth Monday, we’ll come up with something crazy,” Edwards said.
Also on tap for The Elegant Farmer are licenses to sell beer and cocktails which will add martinis (yeah!) and craft beers to the restaurant’s current wine list.
For now, the Elegant Farmer is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, and it’s best to call ahead for reservations. We managed to slip in on a recent Thursday, but the restaurant was packed. We tried two new (to us) dishes, and both made up very happy.
Tony declared his spicy shrimp and grits “the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever eaten.” I opted for grilled trout on a bed of pureed sweet potatoes. Honey chipotle pecan butter crowned the fish, turning each bite into a tantalizing tease of sweet and savory. The serving was also generous, so I toted home leftovers for lunch the next day. They warmed up nicely.
