Andrew Adams: Executive Chef at Acre
Crash Hethcox and Mary Ellen Rogers making it happen for Revival: Southern Food Truck.
On the way home from work last night, I realized I wasn't hungry. Quite a change for me at dinner time. Then I remembered what I ate for lunch: Andouille sausage sliders with Creole mustard slaw, a side of Southern greens and an appetizer of dirty fries: perfect skinny French fries with gravy, cheese, mushrooms, green onions, and tiny bits of sausage. Plus Krispy Kreme bread pudding. I only ate a spoonful, I swear.
Yes, I finally had lunch at Revival: Southern Food Company, parked Thursday on Jefferson near the UT Medical Center. Fortunately, my foodie pal Joe helped me with out with those fries. We were so enticed by their decadent menu description that we sat in Joe's truck and wolfed down half the carton. Then we swooned about the delicious mess during the ride back to work.
I'm pretty sure I'm the last food writer in Memphis to discover Crash Hethcox's food truck, so allow me to heap on the praise. Better yet, break out of your lunch routine with a plate, slider, or taco that marries Southern cooking with worldwide (and family) influences. What I didn't order but almost did: a meatball slider made with a recipe from Heathcox's Sicilian grandmother.
If you don't trust my recommendation, consider this: Deep South magazine and blog has included the Revival food truck and two Memphis restaurants in its list of the top 50 restaurants in the South. Revival, Acre, and The Elegant Farmer were three of six restaurants selected in Tennessee for the story. Click here to read all the magazine's picks.
Memphis magazine readers won't be surprised at the blog's results. They recently named Mac Edward's The Elegant Farmer as
the best new restaurant. Elegant Farmer is featured in our February dining issue, along with Acre, which is the issue's cover story.
