David Pohl
David Pohl is an illustrator, educator, deejay, performance and installation artist, gardener, blogger, and drummer. Pohl's illustrations have won awards from the Society of Illustrators, and the art publications American Illustration, Print, Graphis, How, and Communication Arts . His work has appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, Village Voice, and The New York Times . He lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Larry Kuzniewski
Photographer Larry Kuzniewski is as much a part of Memphis magazine as the city itself, and a big part of our office culture. Shortly after setting up shop here in 1974, he began shooting images for the upstart publication, then called City of Memphis magazine. His hobbies include motor scooter joyrides, Pittsburgh Steelers football, and general water cooler talk.
Frank Murtaugh
Managing editor Frank Murtaugh has been a part of six "Top Docs" issues over his 16 years with Memphis . As imposing as a check-up might be, he's come to find profiling the city's finest physicians among the most rewarding of tasks. "I play with the word 'hero' a lot, covering sports as much as I do," he says. "But these doctors — saving lives when they're not pausing for an interview — are the genuine article."
Marilyn Sadler
During her tenure with Memphis , Marilyn has written numerous health-related articles, including an in-depth look at The Med's trauma center, a study of Teflon jaw implants that triggered serious reactions in patients, and the impact of ADHD on children and adults. In this issue she interviews a "palliative care" nurse, who tends to patients with conditions not likely to improve.
Jane Schneider
Jane Schneider regularly files away interesting story ideas for future use. "I met Virginia Stallworth five years ago during a meeting at her home with the Memphis Area Women's Council," she says. "I remember being fascinated by their memorabilia collection, and thought this campaign season would be the perfect time to tell their story." Jane edits Memphis Parent magazine, and uses travel as an excuse to work at her photography.
