Memphis Game Day Style

Memphis is a great town for sports and sports fashion is always a fun topic to cover. Many rules can be broken off the court in the name of team spirit. Face painting, clashing color combinations, and bizarre head decor are just a few. All of that and more are fair game when it comes to showing support. Don't be intimated by a little war paint or bright colors because it is always OK to be a loyal fan and to be proud of your team.

I always break my own fashion rules when it comes to cheering for the Tigers and the Grizzlies. Rarely do I wear a graphic t-shirt but I almost always do when it comes to Tiger games. I have my choice collection of fitted t's — "Our Coach Is Cuter than Your Coach," retro faded white and blue old school athletic font "Memphis Tigers," and my Final Four t-shirt which I still wear. These t's are mixed in with my blazers, fur vests, cardigans, and jeans and

either a Tigers sweat band, visor, or glitter baseball cap for good measure. For the recent Tennessee game, which the University of Memphis Tigers won 69-51 (special note — this is the second time this season the Tigers defeated the Vols) I wore my new Tiger blue stretch denim jeans — from Target — and styled them with my retro Memphis Tigers fitted t-shirt, tailored Theory blazer, sky-high black suede Prada boots, and Tigers sweatband across my forehead. The outfit suited me well and I screamed my head off the entire game. There was lots of great Tiger fashion there too, like sequined blue "M"'s blazoned across black t-shirts and men wearing blue and white dress shirts with suit jackets and jeans. The crowd was predominantly well-dressed. However, there were a few bright orange blazers and this look is always foul.

Much to my delight, there were sweatbands galore for the Grizz opening game on December 28th at FedExForum. The first few thousand fans received free yellow Grizz bands, but

I wore mine that I got during the playoffs last Spring. The crowd really dressed well for this night. Lots of ladies were wearing high-end denim with fur jackets, high heeled boots, and designer bags. Men were dressed also in nice denim and jackets and lots of headbands thrown on for visi

ble support. Like I said, I wore mine also with all black but then had on my vintage bright yellow leather driving gloves that practically glow in the dark — perfect for Grizzlies games. We lost the game that night, but the crowd had winning style.

So, wear your team colors with pride and score some points by actually going out of "fashion bounds" so to speak. Game Day style is an awesome way to get a little creative and to stay looking good.
