Most Memphians of a certain age remember the Silver Slipper nightclub, located on Macon Road just outside of town. I've written before about that club and its rather notorious owner, Bob Berryman.
But what about the Golden Slipper?
While digging through the old Memphis Press-Scimitar files in the Special Collections department at the University of Memphis Library, I came across this intriguing old photo of the establishment. It had no date, no address, no information at all, really. Just a cozy club on a little highway, with an old car parked out front.
Actually, the car probably wasn't old when the photo was taken. For all I know, it was brand new.
The crop marks indicate the photo was probably used in the newspaper at some time, but I wasn't able to find any article about the Golden Slipper. Maybe I just didn't search long enough.
I really like that neat old Coca-Cola sign.
Does anybody know anything about this place?
