One of only 10 of Tennessee’s 136 school systems to achieve straight “A’s” in Academic Achievement on the Tennessee Department of Education Report Card, Shelby County Schools (SCS) provides a technology-rich instruction program to more than 48,000 students in its 51 schools. SCS is the state’s fourth-largest school system and includes all public schools in the county outside the city limits of Memphis, including those in Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland, and Millington.
SCS continues to exceed standards set by the State Department of Education and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SCS students also surpass state averages on both SAT and ACT tests, and either match or outperform national scores. SCS was the first school system in West Tennessee to offer the world-class International Baccalaureate Program (Germantown High) and will start its second IB Program (Bolton High) in August 2011. Additionally, SCS will launch its first academies for rigorous study in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math at Bartlett and Southwind High Schools in August 2011. The system also has more PTA members than any other in Tennessee — roughly one-third of the statewide membership.
