Brad Jones
Cover photographer Brad Jones is a native of Coldwater, Mississippi. He moved to Memphis to attend Memphis College of Art. He graduated from MCA with a BFA in photography in 2001. After living in California, Texas, and Kentucky, Jones made his way back to Memphis. "I love Memphis because of its rich cultural heritage and the interesting characters found here. It's a great place to be a photographer," says Jones, who began shooting for Memphis magazine in 2001. Since that time, he's shot five Memphis covers, and worked with clients such as Hilton Hotels, Corbis, PBS, Discovery Channel, Turner Classic Movies UK, Fast Company , Inc., USA Today and The Red Cross.
When he's not behind the camera, Brad can be found reading and watching movies. "I get a lot of ideas for my photography that way. I like to shoot a variety of subjects. I believe that everyone and everything has the potential to make an interesting photograph. It's up to the photographer to do what it takes to bring that forward."
Leonard Gill
Leonard Gill is a Memphian born and bred, and before returning to his hometown in 1984, he learned about the publishing trade as an editor for a subsidiary of Harper & Row in Boston. At the Round Table Bookstore in Memphis, he got a first-hand look at the book trade. He is a copyeditor and book reviewer for The Memphis Flyer , and as a monthly columnist for Memphis, he focuses on fiction and nonfiction of local or regional interest -- whether it's a recent home-decorating book by Lisa Quinn, photography books by James Perry Walker and Jason Miccolo Johnson, or in this issue, a biography of writer and editor par excellence, the late Willie Morris.
Chris Herrington
In addition to being a contributing editor for Memphis , Chris Herrington is the music and film editor for The Memphis Flyer , where he also covers the Memphis Grizzlies. Chris has won multiple awards for arts criticism and sports writing from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies and the Southeast regional chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, most recently getting first place for criticism in the SPJ's 2006 Green Eyeshade Awards. A graduate of White Station High School, Chris also talks basketball, music, and movies each Wednesday afternoon as a guest on 730-AM's The Chris Vernon Show .
Marilyn Sadler
During her 15-year-tenure at Memphis , senior editor Marilyn Sadler has contributed hundreds of articles to the magazine on topics ranging from date rape to death row inmates, all-white country clubs to crack- addicted mothers. Sadler has also profiled such eccentric characters as cotton broker Julien J. Hohenberg, Elvis photographer Bill Speer, and the late artist Carroll Cloar. The winner of several journalism awards, she also enjoys fiction writing. Her short stories have appeared in (she laughs) "obscure literary journals" and she received an honorable mention in a Writer's Digest competition.
