NELL DICKERSON - IntroSpective, On the Waterfront,
Nell Dickerson is a Memphis- and Mississippi-based photographer, architect, Hollywood set designer and a fifth-generation cotton farmer in the heart of the Delta. She is passionate about historic preservation and collaborates with several agencies to preserve, protect, and rebuild the rich culture of the South. "No photographic lens is wide enough to capture the destruction and devastation I saw from Hurricane Katrina. The best I could do was to record fleeting moments in time. I fear that most of the buildings I shot will fall prey to hopelessness and escape preservation."

Using Memphis' unique texture for inspiration, freelance photo-journalist Justin Fox Burks captures interesting and decisive images of this city's inhabitants. In 2005, his portraits of artists, musicians, and newsmakers was shown at Jack Robinson Gallery. In addition to his regular contributions to Rhodes and The Memphis Flyer , Burks' photographs have appeared in The Oxford American, London Independent, and Mojo magazine. He earned his B.F.A. in Photography at the University of Memphis.

For 25 years, Pamela Denney has been covering the news for publications and media companies in Virginia, California, and Tennessee. Now a free-lance writer in Memphis, Pam has worked as a journalism instructor, reporter, and editor, most recently for The Memphis Flyer and Memphis magazine.
JAMES SHEPHERD - The Competition's Heating Up.
James Shepherd resides in Muskego, Wisconsin, with wife Dawn, two sons Joshua (6) and Conor (10 months), and Oswald the family pug. A free-lance artist since 1996, James has converted himself from a traditional airbrush artist to a completely digital one. During the day he does his best to render his images while keeping Conor out of the doggy water, and spends his nights making up for the lost time. His latest ambition is to take his energetic illustrations to animation.

Bruce VanWyngarden is editor of The Memphis Flyer and the editorial director for Contemporary Media, Inc. A resident of Memphis since 1993, he is a former editor of Missouri Life magazine, Pittsburgh magazine, and a senior editor at Saturday Review . His reviews and articles have appeared in USA Today, The Washington Post, Travel & Leisure , and other publications. He has been known to go fishing on occasion.
