Tennessee Shakespeare Company today announced the schedule for its fifth season of events, highlighted by a spring presentation of Hamlet at the Dixon Gallery & Gardens. The iconic story of a prince grappling with ghosts of past and present will serve as TSC's theme throughout the season, one in which its educational programming will continue to reach throughout the Mid-South. More than 70 schools from three states have felt TSC's impact since 2007. (During its 2011-12 season, TSC attracted a total of 12,000 patrons and made an estimated economic impact of $3 million.)
"There are few more delightful surprises in humanity than when we discover what makes us unique," says Dan McCleary, TSC's producing artistic director. "In Shakespeare's works, a search for the authentic self and the question of how one must live his or her life is deeply experienced in his play that not only changed the theatre but also awakened humanity's awareness of itself: Hamlet."
Highlights of TSC's Season Five:
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), September 20 - October 7, Poplar Pike Playhouse (All 37 of the Bard's plays . . . in 97 minutes.)
It's a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play, December 6-16, Dixon Gallery & Gardens
Hamlet (directed by Dan McCleary), April 3-14, 2013, Dixon Gallery & Gardens
Seven memorable words to leave you with, as the next Tennessee Shakespeare Company performance nears: "O, had I but followed the arts!"
