Described as a veteran domestic violence advocate, Olliette Murry-Drobot has been chosen executive director, effective June 20th, of the Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County.
Chip Dudley, chair of the FSC board of directors, praises Murry-Drobot's experience, know-how, and "the energy required to launch our operations and get the organization running smoothly and efficiently." The new director — who replaces the interim leader Linda Miller — was most recently head of the Southeast Memphis Community Development Corporation and a consultant to the University of Memphis Center for Community Criminology and Research. She also worked directly with Operation: Safe Community's Safeways, where she developed strategies to tackle domestic violence. In fact, the Family Safety Center is growing out of Operation: Safe Community planning.
The FSC is expected to open in late summer, and is designed to provide a secure environment for families and a space where professionals can offer legal and advocacy help and various social services for families in crisis. It will be located in the Madison Professional Building at 1750 Madison.
Regarding the new center and its leader, Dudley says, "We are creating an important center for family justice in this community, and [Murry-Drobot] is the person we need to move into that future."
