Brad Jones
Photographer Brad Jones is a native of Coldwater, Mississippi. He moved to the Bluff City to attend Memphis College of Art, where he planned to major in illustration. Armed with an old Pentax camera, he enrolled in one of MCA's photography classes, and found his true passion. He graduated from MCA with a BFA in photography in 2001. After living in California, Texas, and Kentucky, Jones made his way back to Memphis, and settled in Midtown. He began shooting for Memphis magazine in 2001. We're big fans.
Greg Akers
Now, look at this handsome devil. That's Greg Akers in spring 1978. You see that look in his eye that says, "Wow, the world's a pretty great place and I'm glad to be in it"? He's clearly still buzzing from a recent meeting with Batman at a car show in Little Rock (and thrilled with his nifty threads and magnificent Batman patch, sewed on by his mom). Now, Greg gets to repay the favor to his hero, defending his honor in this month's Point/Counterpoint. The world's a pretty great place, and he's glad to be in it.
Frank Murtaugh
Managing editor Frank Murtaugh has entered the ring for 13 Point/Counterpoints since the column's inception in April 2006. Remarkably, his record was unblemished until his own wife waffled between flowers and jewelry in February. He's off the mat this month with the case for Spider-Man as the greatest superhero of them all. Frank's grandfather gave him his first Spidey comic in 1978. Among his childhood heroes, the web-slinger is rivaled only by Roger Staubach and Paul Stanley.
Frannie Shellman
Frannie Shellman is a senior at Rhodes College and intern for Memphis magazine. An English major, Frannie enjoys some books and all magazines. Her hobbies include cooking, celebrity gossip, trivia, and soccer. She is horrible at racquetball and hates when people use the term "Hotlanta," being a native of Atlanta herself. Since beginning her internship, Frannie has become an expert on both Batman and Spider-Man.
Madoline Markham
Madoline Markham is scared to graduate from Rhodes College in May, but interning at Memphis magazine this semester has taught her that the working world is not really so bad. When she isn't studying history for her major courses, she bakes for her roommates, explores Midtown, and attends too many meetings for her extracurricular activities. While she misses the hills in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, she decided that Memphis' barbecue sauce makes living here worthwhile.
