Bruce VanWyngarden
Bruce VanWyngarden is editor of the M emphis Flyer and the editorial director for Contemporary Media, Inc. A resident of Memphis since 1993, he is a former editor of Missouri Life magazine, Pittsburgh magazine, and a senior editor at Saturday Review . His reviews and articles have appeared in USA Today, The Washington Post, Travel & Leisure , and other publications. He is an Aries and loves long walks on the beach and women who make him laugh. Turn-ons include: stamp-collecting, full-contact jujitsu, and making up fake bios for magazine articles. His 1987 book, Aquarius Revisited (co-authored with Peter Whitmer), has just been reissued in paperback by Citadel Press. Please go buy it.
Taylor Eason
"Buzz" writer Taylor Eason was born and raised in Atlanta. In 1991, she received her undergraduate degree in English/French Literature from Colgate University, whose proximity to New York wineries lured her into a fascination with the grape. She enrolled at Ecôle Hotelière de Genève in Switzerland, a 15-month restaurant management school that emphasizes cooking techniques and European wine education. She traveled extensively during her stay in Europe to French and Italian wine countries, becoming more wine geeky every day. After completing her studies in Europe, she moved to Tampa, Florida, to manage the Harry Waugh Dessert Room at Bern's Steakhouse, famous for having the most extensive wine list in the world. In August 2001, she launched "Corkscrew," a weekly wine education column. She lives in Tampa with her cat, Mitch, and her kick-ass wine collection.
Leonard Gill
Leonard Gill is a Memphian born and bred, and before returning to his hometown in 1984, he learned about the publishing trade as an editor for a subsidiary of Harper & Row in Boston. At the Round Table Bookstore in Memphis, he then got a first-hand look at the book trade. He is a copy editor and book reviewer for the the M emphis Flyer , and as a monthly columnist for Memphis , he focuses on fiction and nonfiction of local or regional interest. He also serves as a judge for Memphis' annual fiction competition.
Frank Murtaugh
Frank Murtaugh has been with M emphis magazine since 1992 and managing editor since 1995. A graduate of Tufts University, he's written on a range of topics from Imperial China to Redbirds baseball. Frank covers sports for the M emphis Flyer , for whom he writes a weekly web column, "From My Seat." His profile of new Memphis Grizzlies coach Marc Iavaroni will appear in our October issue.
