Michael Finger
Senior editor Michael Finger, shown here on the day he was mailed to his new family from the orphanage, was an unremarkable child. He attended Sea Isle Elementary, Colonial Junior High, and Overton High School in Memphis before joining the Coast Guard, though no records exist of any of those accomplishments. As soon as he was released from prison on what he always called "those trumped-up charges," he began working for ad agencies, publications, and various other places around the city that needed someone who knew how to operate a manual typewriter. One day, finding him sleeping in a discarded refrigerator box on the riverbluffs, the publisher of Contemporary Media offered him a temporary job with our company, and the lad has stubbornly refused to leave the premises. Over the years, he claims he has proved his "worth" by winning journalism awards during the years when there clearly wasn't much, if any, competition. When he is not working, which is most of the time, he enjoys sleeping, dozing, and napping.
Andy Earles
Andrew Earles is based in Memphis and has written many possibly forgotten features for magazines like The Onion, Paste, Harp, Magnet Magazine, The Philadelphia Weekly , and our very own Memphis Flyer . He has been writing for almost ten years, and is currently shopping several proposals for books "that he would buy if someone else wrote them." He is also a primary participant in a double CD of comedy to be released this year on Matador Records. He has several fish and three cats. His Last Stand this month is something we would buy if we didn't already get it for free. Check it out on page 80.
Brad Jones
Photographer Brad Jones is a native of Coldwater, Mississippi. He moved to Memphis to attend Memphis College of Art, where he planned to major in illustration. Armed with an old Pentax camera, he enrolled in one of MCA's photography classes, and found his true passion. He graduated from MCA with a BFA in photography in 2001. After living in California, Texas, and Kentucky, Jones made his way back to Memphis, and settled in Midtown. He began shooting for Memphis magazine in 2001. We're big fans.
Christian Patterson
A few years ago, Christian moved from New York to Memphis and began exploring and photographing the city. He has since moved back to the Big Apple, and his Memphis photographs have been the subject of solo shows in New York and San Francisco. His work is included in the "Young American Photographers" exhibition traveling to Milan, Paris, and Berlin this year. He still has not found good barbecue in New York. For further information, visit
