Cold Case, Getting Warmer?
Thank you for the article on Matt Pendergrast [March 2008]. Just last night I was at a dinner and someone I didn't know started talking about how intrigued she was by the story. Maybe, just maybe, the attention you have brought to his disappearance will lead to some answers. And if not, thank you for letting those of us who knew Matt know that his parents are doing okay. Unfortunately, I never got to know him well, but he was extremely kind and mild-mannered. There was a lot more work involved in the story than I would ever have imagined. Thanks again for putting so much into it.

I was the agent who checked you out of the resort the day you departed. I certainly meet quite a lot of people here at Little Palm but I definitely remembered you when someone showed me the March issue of Memphis magazine. I wanted to take the time to let you know your fun writing style is so appealing. Additionally, I really was tickled to see you feature Spencer [the island's notorious blue heron]. I think he's a riot to see standing with his little wings open like a flasher would do with his raincoat. You really captured what it feels like to be here at Little Palm. We think it's a pretty nice place to live, but it's nice when we know others can appreciate this gem of a geographical location as well. I just wanted to let you know how much I loved your article. I'm going to have to get a copy to send to my in-laws in Oklahoma and my family in New Orleans. They don't visit enough . . . maybe your fantastic article will inspire them!

Thank you, [The Cove Restaurant & Bar owner] Jim Marshall! Anderton's was always one of our family's favorite places in Memphis, so of course we were very sad to see it close. I'd heard that someone bought the pirate ship bar, but I had no idea what the plans were for it. Thank goodness for people who fight to preserve our city history rather than let it go to waste. I know it's no Graceland or Sun, but for those of us who spent decades enjoying the oysters and seafoam interior of Anderton's, seeing the crazy pirate bar and art alive and well, and still in Midtown no less, means a lot.
