The Stax Museum of American Soul Music continues to serve as a conduit for a distinctive Memphis sound that crosses genres and generations. Thursday night at the museum (926 E. McLemore), the Bo-Keys will release their third studio album, Heartaches by the Number. As described in a Stax release, the new album “is an exploration of the intersection of country, folk, and soul, combining stunning originals with inspired interpretations of jukebox classics from Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Bob Dylan, Swamp Dogg, Charlie Rich, and Ray Price.”
Founded by Scott Bomar and Skip Pitts, the current incarnation of the Bo-Keys released its debut album, The Royal Sessions, in 2004 and followed with Got to Get Back! in 2011. Trumpeter Ben Cauley is an original member of the Bar-Kays and the only surviving member from the plane crash that killed Otis Redding on December 10, 1967.
CDs and LPs of the new album will be available in the museum gift shop. The party will be held April 21st from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. with a $10 admission fee.
