TELL US WHYEvery year, Inside Memphis Business magazine honors four CEOs who have proven to be exemplary in their fields, leading their companies to success on local, regional, national, and international stages.Nominations for the 2019 CEO of the Year awards are open for another two weeks. Memphis is graced with tremendously talented, inspiring executives in charge of their companies and organizations, and we want to hear from you about the best in the business. Email your nomination to sparks@insidememphisbusiness.com and include the CEO’s resume and a description of why he or she should get the award: vision, achievements, business philosophy, employee relations, management style, special qualities.We give out four awards in categories according to the number of employees in the companies: 1-50, 50-200, 200-1,000, and 1,000 and up, so include that information as well. The deadline for CEO of the Year is November 16, 2018. When the nominations are in, an impartial panel will consider the nominees and pick one for each category. Each will be notified and interviewed for the February/March 2019 issue of IMB — and each will appear on the cover of the magazine. A breakfast in late January will honor the four CEOs.WHAT'S GOING ON- Memphis’ latest attraction made its debut on the Hernando de Soto Bridge last Saturday at 6:30 p.m. during RiverArtsFest at Mighty Lights: Recharge the River. This is the first connected LED lighting system of its kind, and it can remotely monitor both the Big River Crossing and Hernando de Soto Bridges from a single dashboard and remotely manage content. The installation on the Hernando de Soto Bridge has nearly 10,000 individually controllable Color Kinetics light points. These fixtures are designed to withstand harsh weather, excess vibration due to automobiles, and extreme heat. The Mighty Lights has been selected as a pilot market for the Social Impact Analysis app, a software service within the Interact Landmark platform that will help the City of Memphis and Memphis Bridge Lighting Inc. collect feedback on the social and media impact of the Mighty Lights.- Construction spending hit a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.329 trillion and grew 5.5 percent for nine months of 2018 combined, with continued year-to-date gains for major public and private categories, according to an analysis of new government data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said that while demand for construction should remain strong for the next several months, the construction sector could be impacted by new trade tariffs, continues workforce shortages and higher interest rates.- The Vaco Memphis CPE Seminar is scheduled for Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon at International Paper. It's open to accounting and financial professionals. The seminar will feature speakers from FedEx and Ernst & Young who will cover various provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, updates to corporate financial reporting standards, data analytics for internal audits, and new standards to lease accounting. Attendees are eligible for four CPE credits: Taxes (1 hr), Accounting (2 hrs) and Specialized Knowledge (1 hr). Register via Eventbrite. His duties will include overseeing a multi year plan centered around transforming student learning; the social determinants of health will be a main focus for students under his tenure.- Carter Giovannetti, a wealth advisor at Red Door Wealth Management, earned his CPFA credentials from the National Association of Plan Advisors.- inferno announced the launch of The Boilerplate, the agency’s bi-weekly podcast focused on “trends, tips, and insights into the latest PR and marketing topics.” Public relations director Beth Wilson and senior copywriter Brandon Davis will frequently invite PR professionals, educators, and journalists on to the podcast. The first episode is available here.- Fortune magazine recognized Pinnacle Financial Partners as one of America’s best workplaces for women. The firm earned the number 12 spot on the list, marking the second year in a row to be ranked.- National HR, benefits, and payroll provider Adams Keegan announced its expansion to the markets of Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and Houston.- Turner Construction Company promoted Andy Davis to vice president of the company’s Memphis office.
