Thursdays-Saturdays, 7 p.m. and Sundays, 3 p.m. Continues through June 19
I promised you last week, dear friends, to tell you more about the upcoming production of Henry V. This is it. The performance has some really cool features. One such feature is the offering of Elizabethan seating configuration that places patrons just off the raised stage. Another unique feature of this performance by Tennessee Shakespeare Company is that ten actors will play more than 30 roles, change costumes on stage, and engage audience participation making you the 11th actor. The performance itself characterizes the “chaos of war and the romance of peace.” And since we just celebrated Memorial Day I think it is appropriate to note that yet another unique feature of this performance is that it is produced in memory of TSC friend, Dan Copp, who died in 2015. Lieutenant Copp served in the U.S. Navy on the battleship Tennessee. With this production, TSC honors his courage, service, and friendship.

Many of you know that I ran for office twice—once for City Council and once for Shelby County Commission. In the City Council election, I didn’t stand a chance and decided to make a point with my campaign. I decided to rock the boat. If you have never run for office, I highly recommend it. Various groups ask you to fill out forms and then interview you to see if you are deserving of their support/funds to back you—to back them. I did some serious interviews, but one interview that stands out was one in which I became completely disgusted with this process. The first question on this particular group’s form was, “Will you vote to give us [members of the group] raises? Yes or No.” I had checked the box that said "no." I’ve never so clearly heard deafening silence as I poked the bear just a bit harder by asking this group why they were interviewing Council candidates when the City Council had no authority in their arena—to give raises willy nilly or direct funding/support/programming in any capacity. To be fair, this group had a candidate who was a member of their group, and this candidate did, in fact, get their backing. So I really had nothing to lose except an opportunity to make a point. In case you are wondering, out of 15 candidates, the only candidate I beat in this election was the one who didn't meet the deadline for officially pulling out of the race. Here we are America, for better or worse. Go see it in art.

Starts June 10. June 10-26
I am assured by my friends in real estate that the housing market is booming. Perhaps you are looking for a home —or decorating ideas. In either case, these homes stretching from Memphis to Atoka and in Mississippi should inspire you. Perhaps you should first see The Wiz at Hattiloo, opening this weekend, or The Wizard of Oz , starting next week, at the Orpheum to remind you that there is no place like home. You have until the 26th of June to ease on down the road in this parade route.
