The 2014 Delta Symposium, “Two Sides of the River: A Day of Distinguished Speakers, Images and Music,” kicked off with a reception for speakers and sponsors at the home of Niel and Sarah Prosser (the historic former E.H. Crump house). The next day’s conference, a day-long event at the Fogelman Executive Center, was hosted by Memphis writer and filmmaker Willy Bearden and featured a lineup of fascinating speakers. Keynote speaker Julia Reed — noted author and magazine columnist — opened with a talk titled “A Taste of the Delta.” Now in its ninth year, the Delta conference helps to raise funds for the University Libraries of the University of Memphis and to support their many events. Memphis magazine is an in-kind sponsor and supporter of this important annual event.
