TBT: Behind the Scenes of the July Fashion Shoot

Labor Day Weekend may celebrate the end of Summer, but Memphis stays caliente until October so it’s the perfect time to have another look at some of the season’s greatest swimsuits and our editorial that brought them to the pages of Memphis magazine. ThrowBack Thursday highlights our fashion shoot from last June for the July issue we worked on in the much loved Tennessee Brewery after its final run of Spring Untapped events. The smell of spilled locally crafted beer still lingered heavily in its bricks and mortar but it was just right for our crew that day made up of pros Brian Groppe, Larry Kuzniewski, Christopher Padgett, Rachel Evans, Sara Harrison, Holly Charnes, Jennifer Dickerson, and Taylor Berger.

The sun was already beating down on us by morning call time and the humidity was wafting at an epic pace which is not surprising for June, but still created quite a stagnant setting in the makeshift dressing room inside an airstream food truck. No worries, though, we were all pretty jacked about our job that day. The Untapped events were pure magic — fully loaded with great food, just the right crowd, delish beer, live music & poetry. All of this kinetic energy was nestled inside the most lovely architectural space on the River. It was just as fun being there without all of that going on and we certainly brought an energy of our own. We get silly, but we work pretty hard too.

We didn’t have any live music that day, however during down time we had a Beyonce dance off and talked relentlessly about ’90s hair bands. Jennifer Dickerson made the most heavenly beef, chicken, and chorizo tacos for us just as she had done for the Truck Stop Food Truck so many times before during the beer garden events. Holly rocked her incredible bod in some great swimsuits which made all of us wish we hadn’t consumed so much local draft hops and barley juice during the Spring. Her high-level enthusiasm is unparalleled in the Memphis modeling world. Rarely is a gal so smokin’ hot AND tots nice and funny like Holly. Additionally, she’s a complete pro and makes modeling look really easy — which it’s not.

No doubt the Tennessee Brewery inspired so many and hopefully its future will be rooted in more events that bring our community together for fellowship and good times. Everything about it — the soaring spaces, the metal work, the graffiti — is entirely engaging. The calorcito was a lot more bearable in that setting and a great reminder to enjoy the weather while it’s here before another polar vortex bundles us up in winter clothes.
