Many passed-down family recipes are a bit complicated for today’s busy kitchen cooks, which is one of the reasons I’m so charmed by Mima’s Old-Fashioned Chocolate Pie. Mima is Memphian Inez Thomas, the grandmother of food writer Josh Tucker, who filmed his stepmom, Susan Tucker, recreating one of his favorite food memories from growing up.
Along with the creamy chocolate filling in Mima’s pie, I like how it’s cooked in a microwave, an especially useful technique if your Thanksgiving turkey is already in the oven.
