Lisa Ansley, David Wang, and Shelly Ansley are the powerhouse trio behind Wang’s and East Tapas, their adjoining restaurant next door.
Wang’s Mandarin House in East Memphis is opening in time for Christmas after a kitchen fire and subsequent repairs shuttered it for the past month.
The fire occurred while restaurant staffers were preparing a catering order.
“My uncle was able to put most of it out himself, but the damage was just bad enough that we had to do kitchen repairs,” co-owner Lisa Ansley explained in an email. “Usually this is our busiest time of year, but since we just reopened Sunday, I’m trying to get the word out.”
Happily, repairs and inspections are part of the past, and Wang’s, a perennial favorite for best Chinese in Memphis magazine’s restaurant poll, will serve its regular menu on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. East Tapas and Drinks, Wang’s sister restaurant next door, will be open for wine, beer, and cocktails.
Food service returns to East on December 26th with many new menu items, including marinated olives, spinach and artichoke dip spring rolls, and tuna poke, a raw salad typically made with ahi and popular in Hawaiian cuisine. Look for a new craft cocktail menu right after New Year’s.
