As the medical center of the Mid-South, our city is fortunate to have so many facilities that can help patients with any medical condition. Hospitals such as St. Jude have gained worldwide fame for the treatment of childhood cancer, but other facilities offer world-class specialized care for burns, cardiac problems, cancer, pediatrics, orthopedics, and other health issues from head to toe. With over 20 facilities in our area, the possibilities for patient care for people of all ages are almost endless.
Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville

The hospital sits on a 75-acre, parklike campus and features extra-large patient rooms and a walking trail. Medical services include a full-service emergency room, inpatient and outpatient surgery, ICU, a six-bed stepdown unit, screening and diagnostic mammography, outpatient diagnostic testing, and the Baptist Sleep Disorders Center.
Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto

In 2006, Baptist DeSoto opened a new, 11-story tower featuring all-private rooms, expanded operating suites, and a new emergency room. In 2010, Baptist DeSoto received the Hospital of the Year award (100 beds or more) from the Mississippi Nurses Association. The hospital’s inpatient rehabilitation program ranked in the top 1 percent in the nation for quality in a report based on 2009 performance outcomes. In 2010, the hospital’s Women’s Center became the first breast imaging facility in DeSoto County to offer digital mammography. In 2011, the emergency department was upgraded from level IV to level III. In 2012, HealthGrades, a national healthcare ratings organization, ranked Baptist DeSoto’s heart services No. 1 in Mississippi.
Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women
6225 Humphreys Blvd., 227-9000Total staff: 600-plusTotal licensed beds: 140baptistonline.org/womens Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women opened in 2001 and offers labor and delivery, gynecological surgery, a 40-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and is a regional referral center for high-risk pregnancies, mammography diagnostics, and urogynecology. It is the only freestanding women’s hospital in Memphis and one of only a handful of such hospitals nationwide. Special facilities and services include pediatrics (including a pediatric emergency department slated to open in spring 2015), the Dr. Sam P. Patterson Library, a high-risk pregnancy center, a urodynamics center, and a comprehensive breast center that includes mammography, stereotactic biopsy, ultrasound, digital mammography, breast health specialists (nurses specially trained in breast cancer care). The hospital also offers a multidisciplinary breast conference where patients can get second and third opinions at no additional cost, and the area’s only Breast Risk Management Center, which allows women at increased risk for developing breast cancer the opportunity to access the resources and specialized care needed to manage their risks — all in one location.
Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis

Recent additions to the hospital include the hybrid vascular surgical suite, the valve center, and the CyberKnife for stereotactic radiosurgery. In 2010, the hospital celebrated its 25th anniversary of Memphis’ only heart transplant program. For the past 17 years, consumers have named Baptist Memphis their most preferred hospital for overall healthcare services in a National Research Corporation poll.
Baptist Rehabilitation-Germantown

The hospital concentrates on a variety of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and diagnostic services to treat many types of injuries and conditions, such as stroke, arthritis, spine and back disorders and injuries, fractures, amputations, and head injuries. The hospital also offers a diagnostic center featuring MRI and CT scans, as well as wound care, diabetes, and pediatric services. Nine of Baptist Rehab-Germantown’s inpatient and outpatient services have earned the highest accreditation possible for a rehab hospital.
Delta Medical Center

In addition to a 24-hour emergency department and an intensive care unit, Delta has a sleep disorders program, hyperbaric and wound-care services, pulmonary rehabilitation, imaging services, inpatient and outpatient surgery, and cardiology. Delta’s inpatient behavioral health services include a mental health unit, senior care services, and an addictions program. Outpatient programs include day hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs for addictions, and senior adult mental health issues. Services free to the community include a monthly Lunch and Learn Series, diabetic educational groups, and a cancer support group.
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center
1030 Jefferson Avenue, 523-8990 Total staff: 2,373Total licensed beds: 260memphis.va.gov A part of the Memphis community since 1922, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a level I tertiary-care facility and one of the most complex in the nation’s VA healthcare system. In the heart of the Memphis medical community, the VA Medical Center makes services available to more than 175,000 veterans in 53 counties in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Kentucky. It serves as a regional referral center for spinal cord injury and prosthetics treatment and offers acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric care, as well as comprehensive primary, intermediate, and specialized outpatient care to entitled and eligible veterans. The VA has 10 community-based outpatient clinics, three of which are VA-staffed.
Lakeside Behavioral Health System

As a full-service private behavioral health hospital, Lakeside specializes in inpatient, outpatient, and day treatment for emotional/behavioral problems, emotional trauma, and addiction problems for all ages. Lakeside’s 37-acre main campus is near Interstate 40 and U.S. Highway 64 and has been operating since 1976. Lakeside also has an around-the-clock assessment center to help people find the treatment that best meets their needs. It offers specialty programs for suicide intervention, bipolar spectrum disorders, trauma resolution, geriatric psychiatry, and young adult populations.
Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital

Services include more than 50 medical and surgical subspecialties and a staff of more than 700 pediatricians, pediatric specialists, and subspecialists. Le Bonheur has been named by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Children’s Hospital. Serving as a primary teaching affiliate for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the hospital trains more pediatricians than any other hospital in the state. Le Bonheur includes a Neuroscience Institute, which has become a national leader in treating children with brain tumors, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. Other premier services include pediatric orthopedics, pulmonology, nephrology, a Heart Institute, and Le Bonheur Community Health and Well-Being, which targets neighborhoods with high rates of diabetes, asthma and obesity.
Memphis Mental Health Institute (MMHI)

MMHI continues to provide educational and training opportunities for UT medical students and residents. As of July 2013, the community-based crisis services for Memphis and Shelby County are co-located in the MMHI facility. The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services contracts with Alliance Healthcare Services for a full array of crisis-support services including mobile assessment, short-term crisis stabilization, and medically monitored chemical detoxification services. This co-location provides essential mental health services as a “safety net hub” for citizens of Shelby County.
Methodist Extended Care Hospital (MECH)

Often referred to as a hospital within a hospital, MECH operates a separate facility within Methodist University Hospital.
Methodist Fayette Hospital

Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital

Comprehensive cardiac services include dedicated open-heart surgical suites and cardiac catheterization labs, a cardiovascular intensive-care unit, and inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. The hospital also features an inpatient pediatric unit and emergency services operated under the standards of Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Methodist Germantown Hospital features a certified chest pain center and is designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission.
Methodist North Hospital

Methodist South Hospital

Methodist University Hospital

In the heart of the Memphis Medical Center, it is the major academic campus for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. It is a tertiary-care and referral center that offers acute-care services as well as specialized services in transplant neuroscience, cardiology, orthopedics, cancer, emergency care, and minimally invasive surgery. The hospital has a certified chest pain center and is designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission.
Regional Medical Center of Memphis

Saint Francis Hospital

Saint Francis offers a wide variety of services and is noted for its many Centers of Excellence, including its Center for Surgical Weight Loss, Sleep Center, Chest Pain Emergency Center, Heart & Vascular Center, Surgical Services, Diabetes Center, and Women’s Center. The hospital serves as an academic training site for University of Tennessee surgical, family practice and psychiatric residents. It is accredited by the Joint Commission.
Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push overall childhood cancer survival rates from 20 percent to 80 percent since it opened 50 years ago. It is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. St. Jude also has the world’s best survival rates for the most aggressive childhood cancers.
