Jenean Morrison
Jenean Morrison was a communications major at the University of Memphis. It didn’t stick. At 31, she went back to school at the Memphis College of Art. Later, as a working artist she began actively pursuing licenses for her intricate work. Her first sale was to Solo Cup for napkins. Her work has since been seen on everything from scrapbooks to rugs.
In 2012, Morrison happened upon an old coloring book she had since she was a kid. She thought, I’m going to make a coloring book for adults. And she did, just three weeks later, publishing Pattern and Design Coloring Book through Amazon’s CreateSpace. She has since published seven more (among them The Super Awesome Coloring Book, the bestselling Flower Designs Coloring Book, and her latest, the mammoth, 300-page 2016 Coloring Calendar) and selling some 65,000 titles this year alone.
“It’s very relaxing, meditative” says Morrison of coloring. “It’s satisfying, I think — be alone, do your own thing.”
Morrison will hold an open studio/coloring book signing on Saturday, November 28th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. She’ll have her coloring books for sale, as well as prints, paintings, and fabrics. There will be coloring stations as well. The studio is located at 893 S. Cooper.
