All-Star Active
For kids, summer is all about fun in the sun. And it’s nice when that fun has health benefits. Bring them out to Audubon Park this weekend for the All-Star Active Kids Ultimate Fitness Challenge — the nation’s largest mobile fitness event. The event travels from coast-to-coast and is dedicated to helping keep kids active and healthy. Its Memphis stop is this Saturday, July 11th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Children of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in a time-based obstacle course that includes sprinting, jump roping, wall crawls, hurdles, jumping jacks, sit-ups, and tunnel crawls. The course ends with a 20-foot “confidence climb” and a 60-meter dash to the finish line.
The event features a variety of other activities and games for the whole family. There will also be on-site educational opportunities meant to inspire kids and families to live more active, healthy lives.
The event’s mission: to help create positive change.
From their site: “Too many children in our nation are inactive and unhealthy as obesity rates soar among all age groups of children today. In fact, the latest findings released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed that nearly one in three American children are overweight and are now at huge risk for several diseases associated with obesity, such as diabetes, heart disease, and even some types of cancer. If we do not get this epidemic under control, we are in danger of raising the first generation of American children who may live shorter lives than their parents. The statistics are alarming and should encourage all of us to take action to support a change in the way our kids play, live, and feel.”
The event is free and all are welcome.
