AMAZON BRINGS WHOLE FOODS TO YOUR DOORSTEP. FAST.By Samuel X. CicciThe corporate titan continues its quest for world domination with the introduction of Whole Foods same-day grocery delivery to Memphis (and Nashville). Amazon Prime members, using the Prime Now delivery feature, can have orders over $35 shipped for free. Delivery times are promised within two hours, although customers can pay an extra $7.99 for 1-hour delivery.Amazon’s new option steps into a somewhat crowded Memphis marketplace for this type of service, with apps like Shipt and Instacart already having a presence. Specific chains are also getting in on the act, with Kroger operating a curbside pickup in town and Superlo briefly experimenting with a pickup spot on South Main. However, with Prime members already getting discounts on Whole Foods products, Amazon’s service well find a quick advantage.(Amazon likes Memphis, and chose TriCore Builders in 2017 to construct its new 615,000-square-foot distribution center on East Holmes Road near the airport. Read more about TriCore here.)WHAT’S GOING ON- Taziki's Mediterranean Café will be opening a location this winter in Bartlett. The new restaurant will be at 7974 US-64 and seat about 100 people inside and 25 on the outdoor patio. The restaurant will be 3,000 square feet. The Bartlett location will feature Taziki’s ‘Mediterranean-Coastal’ restaurant design including community tables. Taziki’s research found that half of its business was driven from takeout orders. The restaurant will have a larger space for customers to retrieve their food at the to-go counter.- If you were looking to find out where Millennials hang out, RENTCafe.com has the data. In Memphis, there are three zip codes with increases in Millennial population. There’s an impressive 59 percent of residents in 38103 who are in that generation. It and zip code 38119 both had a five-year Millennial population increase of more than 17 percent.
