With four kids, a mortgage, and a note-free 70s station wagon, every day felt like any page out of an Erma Bombeck novel for my parents when I was growing up. Dad had his favorite Waffle House where he would sit and have a cup of coffee if he had a 15 minute break before picking up the next kid from soccer, cheerleading, dental visit, friend sleepover—pick one. One day, it was my turn to sit with him before the next stop. He went there so often he knew the crew by name. So we walk in the door and he yells, “Hey Sue. Hey Marty. Good afternoon.” As we were walking to a booth he says to me—loud enough for the whole place to hear—“You know, I am never getting your mother another Christmas present. She didn’t use the one I bought her last year.” I walked right into it like a giant spider web, “What did you get her last year?” Timed to perfection, he replied, “A cemetery plot.” The whole place roared with laughter. Yes, I grew up with Dad jokes. I’m not the only one apparently. This weekend you can relive the hilarity, horror, embarrassment, joy—pick one. The Comedy Festival is in town.

Toast To Daffodils

This toast to our area blooms is just a small part of the offerings at the Dixon for the weekend Daffodil Show. Our area blooms are giving quite the performance this year and I believe they deserve a toast. Cheers!
