Music spill on aisle five–Bluegrass and Steak at Shelby Forest General Store
Shelby Forest General Store, 7729 Benjestown
Fridays, 6-8 p.m.
You are probably in Tom Lee Park this weekend celebrating National Barbecue Month at the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest where the flames can’t be dampened by Thursday’s showers. Pig is the preferred delicacy in these parts, but I’m going to give you an option that will delight the ears, soul, and an empty belly. Knock your knees and take a dip in the potato chip isle at Shelby Forest General Store where Tony Butler and friends will be serving up bluegrass music. Bring your banjo or kazoo if you’d like to sit in on the set because “and friends” can always include you. Best of all is the steak special, just a nickel shy of 15 dollars, and the general ambiance and history of the area where the store has provided refreshments and friendly conversation for over eighty years. The owners, Kristen and Doug Ammons, are there serving up the food and friendly conversation. Tell them I sent you.
