Slide into the holiday season at the performance of Celebration on Ice at Gold Strike Casino.
TheatreWorks, 2085 Monroe
Fri., Dec. 18, 7:30-9:15 p.m. and Sat., Dec. 19, 3-5:15 & 7:30-9:15 p.m.
I saw this announcement on Hattiloo's Facebook page, " A reporter from The Washington Post is traveling the country and writing a story about various adaptations of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The national paper will be a member of Hattiloo Theatre's audience on 19 December reviewing our original production if Scrooge was a Brother." The good news is that you already know about Hattiloo's production. If you are as curious as the roving holiday reporter, this production of Holiday Judgement, a 21st century take on the Dickens' classic might also be on your list of seasonal performances. Bluff City Tri-Art Theatre Company introduces the audience to spoiled and rich Holly Wilson who hates Christmas. She destroys a kids bike, gets sued, and disrespects the court. Her sentence teaches her a needed lesson.
Holliday Events, 444 Monroe
Fri.-Sat., Dec. 18-19, 6-9 p.m.
In 1977, my sixth grade best friend and I went to see Stars Wars starring the dreamy Mark Hamill. We swooned over Luke Skywalker and were awed by George Lucas' cutting edge special effects, which by today's standards are admittedly a bit hokey. Fast forward to 2015 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here to thrill yet another generation. There are some special events about the town to delight new and old Star Wars fans. This exhibition, "A Force of Art" is just one of them. Go enjoy the universe!
Bilingual Play: Si Lucifer Fuera Mujer (If Lucifer Was a Woman)
The Evergreen Theatre, 1705 Poplar
Fri.-Sat., Dec. 18-19, 7 p.m.
I wanted to bring your attention to something a little different this season. This performance is the t ale of the shepherds’ journey to Bethlehem. Well, almost. Introducing the idea that Lucifer is a woman should bring an interesting twist to the timeless tale. And it's bilingual. Feliz Navidad.
