As Frank Murtaugh blogged earlier this week, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And whether we like it or not, we’re all fighting the battle together. Just about everyone has been affected by breast cancer in some way — either personally struggling with the disease or seeing friends or loved ones fight the fight. Survival rates are increasing, but there is still work to be done.
Susan G. Komen’s Memphis-MidSouth Race for the Cure takes place later this month (October 31st) — it’s the largest local breast cancer research fundraiser, with much of the money going to local organizations to help lower income and uninsured individuals who suffer with the disease get necessary screenings and treatments.
Another local business is joining the cause and celebrating “Pinktober,” too. Through the month of October, Hard Rock Cafe is selling “pink” merchandise, both in-store and online, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit various breast cancer charities.

75 percent of pin prices and 15 percent of T-shirt and scarf prices will go directly to the cause. Merchandise can be purchased at participating Hard Rock Cafes (including Hard Rock Cafe on Beale Street), Hard Rock Hotels & Casinos, and online at www.hardrock.com.
